NUWFC goal scored by Jess Havelock.
NUWFC would like to wish Oxford United LFC good luck in the next round of the FA Cup.
NUWFC First Team Captain Sarah Wilson said “Unfortunately our FA Cup run is over after our defeat against Oxford United. Our first half performance let us down massively after we allowed Oxford to get a 2 goal lead, we gave ourselves a massive mountain to climb but after a brilliant second half performance we just couldn’t pull it back. Credit to Oxford who battled well, we wish them the very best of luck in the next round.
You may have seen the poster we carried out with us before the game. Unfortunately our little lucky mascot, Zara was unable to travel with us to watch the game, due to ill health. She is our number one fan. She is a very brave little girl fighting a tough cancer battle. Zara is an inspiration to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Zara and her family throughout this tough time”.
NUWFC First Team Assistant Manager Julie Clarke “With Oxford having a fantastic vocal supporters we knew from the start it was going to be a tough game, First half Newcastle didn’t really get into the game and with Oxford opening the scoring in the first 6 minutes then again on the 14th minutes , Newcastle found it really hard to get out of their half so we had to make a few changes with to the structure of the team.
After a much needed half time talk and a confidence boost Newcastle fought their way in to the game second half , and was rewarded with a with a Jess Havelock goal. This give the players the push they needed to charge forwards and start putting pressure on Oxfords defence, with goal opportunities and a scurry in the box with no joy the game came to end in a 2-1 defeat.
NUWFC would like to thank Andrew Scott of Stanley Travel North East Limited for the use of the executive coach to get the team to and from Oxford.
