NUWFC Travel to Oxford in the FA Cup

Newcastle United Women’s Football Club travel to Oxford on Sunday for their FA Cups 4th Round fixture against Oxford United Ladies which will be will be played at the Kassam Stadium, home to Oxford United FC.

Oxford United Ladies caused the shock of the third round by beating FAWPL National Division Charlton Athletic by two goals to one.  Newcastle United WFC progressed to this round with a  2 – 1 win against Plymouth Argyle LFC at home at the Northumbria University Coach Lane.

NUWFC First Team Captain Sarah Wilson said “This weekend we’ll be playing in the FA Cup 4th round against Oxford United LFC. We’ve earned our right to get to this stage and were expecting a tough game. We don’t know a lot about our competition so we must head into the game with a positive attitude, hoping to progress further in the competition. Anything can happen in the FA Cup. Getting the chance to play at the Kassam Stadium is also a massive bonus.  This could potentially be one of the biggest games we get to play in so we are going to make the most of it.
Oxford United Ladies have a very close link with the men’s club and both teams were delighted when the Club announced that the Ladies could play this FA Cup tie at the Kassam Stadium.

NUWFC Chairman Phil Eadon  “
Everyone at NUWFC is looking forward to our FA Cup match against Oxford United LFC.  Both teams will be up for the Cup and we will have to be at our best to progress in the competition.  I have to say a big thank you to the Chairman and team at Oxford United FC for the support they have given to their ladies team and allowing the game to be played at the men’s Kassam Stadium.  It is a sign of how far some men’s football clubs have progressed to embracing the girls and women’s side of football.  They are a key part of the community and female football is growing fast.  Games like this provide many opportunities to promote positive female role models into our local communities”.

Oxford United Ladies FC are definitely a team to watch out for in the future.  The team ‘off the pitch’ is determined as the team ‘on the pitch’ to take the ladies to the next levelOxford United Ladies FC Manager Richard Blackmore said “ It’s a fantastic opportunity for the girls to show what they can do and it is very exciting to be playing at the Kassam Stadium.  They have had such a great season and this is another sign that we are progressing all the time”
