Blackburn Rovers LFC 1 v Newcastle United WFC 1
NUWFC Goal by Dannika Purdham
NUWFC First Team Captain Sarah Wilson
On Sunday we travelled to Blackburn in hope for a good result to pursue our league run and also create a positive mindset going into next weeks FA Cup fixture against Oxford.
We started very slow and allowed Blackburn to take the lead, however a crucial equaliser got us back into the game just before half time. We defended very well as a team in the second half with the home side coming very close upon occasion. We almost took all three points with a late chance being cleared off the line. However we came away with a well-deserved point against a very tough opposition.

We played Forest Hall Ladies on Sunday in the Quarter Final of the NFA Women’s Cup and managed to field one of our strongest squads of the season which was not good news for Forest Hall .
We started the game strongly and within 2 minutes were 1-0 up after well taken goal from leading marksmen Toni Laurie that settled the early nerves and allowed us to play controlled possession football and on a big Northumbria University Coach Lane pitch. We started to stretch Forest Hall and at times they were chasing shadows. 16 minutes into the game Becca Hanson after weeks of encouraging her to shot unleashed an unstoppable shot from just outside the box which gave there goal keeper no chance.
After totally outplaying Forest Hall and creating numerous goal scoring opportunities desperate defending, good goal keeping and bad finishing keep the half time score to 2-0
Again we came out with all guns firing in the second half and within 3 minutes Toni Laurie latched onto a defence splitting ball from the impressive Claire Pitt to round the keeper and fire into an empty net. The game unfortunately for Forest Hall was now becoming damage limitation and we went on to score another 5 goals from Natalie Henderson (55 mins) Toni Laurie (67mins) Toni Laurie (74 mins her 4th of the game) Claire Pitt (77mins) and finally Hannah Marshal (83mins)
Well done to all the squad especially the back four for a solid professional performance our midfield who worked tirelessly for 90 mins and our goal scoring machine up front .
