First and Reserve Teams are in League Action at Home on Sunday

Newcastle United WFC welcome Preston North End WFC to Northumbria University Coach Lane on Sunday 13th January.  Preston are currently sitting second in the FAWPL.  The last meeting of these two teams saw Preston take all three points after putting three goals passed a depleted NUWFC team due to injury.

NUWFC Physio Rachel Nichols has had a busy pre and post-Christmas working with a number of players and this has resulted in First Team Manager having a good choice of players for this weekends fixture.

NUWFC First Team Manager Michael Havelock said “The second game of the year sees the Newcastle ladies back in league action at home against Preston North End. The players have got that all important win under their belts after a few defeats in a row. Our solid performance in the FA Cup enabled the team to progress into the next round with a 2-0 win. The tide seems to have turned and the girls are positive and upbeat about the upcoming fixtures. Preston will be a very difficult opponent, as we found out at their place. The players must apply all of their knowledge and skill and couple that with genuine hard work if we want to come away with a win. We feel that the away game was a false representation of the team, with a squad plagued with injuries; we struggled to match the strong Preston side. Hopefully this time we will give a better account of ourselves on our home turf. This is sure to be a fantastic game and a great advert for women’s football.”

Sunday saw NUWFC progress in the FA Women’s Cup with a 2-0 win over Radcliffe Olympic and will meet Plymouth Argyle at home at the Northumbria University’s Coach lane in the next round on Sunday the 3rd of February.
